Jeremy Hunter Illini Wrestling

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - Jeremy Hunter was named the Fighting Illini's wrestling coach, Director of Athletics Josh Whitman announced Thursday. 

Hunter takes over for Mike Poeta as the 16th head coach in program history.

He has been with Illinois since 2001, and has coached 50 All-Americans and 165 NCAA qualifiers, according to U of I Athletics. 

Additionally, 18 wrestlers under his watch have won individual Big Ten titles.  

"For 25 years, Jeremy Hunter has committed himself to Illinois Wrestling. During his time as an assistant coach, Jeremy has played a significant role in many milestone moments for both the team and individual wrestlers. He is an incredible technician and an avid recruiter, and he has first-hand appreciation for the proud history and tradition of this program," Whitman said in a statement.
