CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - Rich and Leslie Frank announced Wednesday that they have donated $7 million to the University of Illinois to support its men's and women's basketball programs.
The gift will go towards renovations to team and player spaces at the State Farm Center, and will also create the Rich Frank Club, which will go in the former Orange Krush Club space.
Illinois Athletics said this marked their third major gift to the university. including $7.5 million given to the College of Media in 2020, and a $2.5 million donation to renovate part of Gregory Hall.
"Their generosity has already reshaped our campus in profound ways, and this latest gift further elevates our men's and women's basketball programs. Over the years, we have come to know them not only as visionary leaders and generous supporters, but as genuine friends who care deeply about our student-athletes, our coaches and the future of Fighting Illini Athletics. Their passion for Illinois is infectious, and their competitive spirit is inspiring. The Rich Frank Club will stand as a testament to their heart, creativity and unwavering belief in the past, present and future of the University of Illinois," said Director of Athletics Josh Whitman in a statement.
Rich Frank served as the former president of Disney Studios, while Leslie Frank is an Emmy-winning journalist, according to U of I Athletics.
