CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - Illinois freshman guard Keaton Wagler was named a second-team All-American by the Associated Press, U of I Athletics announced Tuesday.Â
Wagler is the first freshman in program history to be named an AP All-American, and the 22nd total in school history.Â
Alongside Wagler on the second-team is Jeremy Fears Jr. (Michigan State), Joshua Jefferson (Iowa State), Braden Smith (Purdue) and Caleb Wilson (North Carolina).
During his prolific season in Champaign, Wagler has nine 20-point games and has shattered the Illini's freshman scoring record with 573 points and counting, according to Illinois Athletics.Â
Wagler was also named National Player of the Week in January, following an epic 46-point outing at eventual Big Ten Tournament champion Purdue.Â
