MAROA, Ill. (WAND) - Maroa-Forsyth Football is preparing for its first State Title Game since 2018.

After losing back-to-back State Semifinals, the third time was the charm for the Trojans.

Maroa-Forsyth took down top-seeded Johnson City on Saturday.

In the postgame huddle, head coach Josh Jostes, who is making his ninth state championship, made it very clear that the goal was not to get to the State Championship but to win it.

"No one has thought more about State Championship Week than me," said Jostes. "The big thing is get our kids back to healthy, enjoy the experience and lay it all out there for 48 minutes."

"I'm excited, but the jobs not finished," said Khaton Wilson. "I'm not there just to play, I'm there to win."

A win over Chicago Christian would give Maroa-Forsyth their third state title in program history. The 2A State Championship will kick off at 1 p.m. Friday at Hancock Stadium.
