(WAND) - May begins with no shortage of action on the diamonds across central Illinois in its first weekend!

The Millikin University softball team began its final weekend with a double-header against Wheaton. In game 1, Big Blue used a pair of 4-run innings in the first and fourth frames to earn a run-rule, 8-0 victory. Millikin then repeated the feat in game 2, scoring 7 runs in the first pair of innings before eventually earning the final score in the 4th to clinch the sweep.

In Monticello, a defensive duel between the hosting Sages and Warrensburg-Latham kept the ballgame moving quickly. Both teams were held scoreless through regulation, leading to extra innings. In the home half of the 8th inning, Monticello worked a runner into scoring position, opening the door for a walk-off RBI single by Grant Kiger. The win lifts the Sages to 24-1 on the season.

Meanwhile, Teutopolis and Pleasant Plains went toe-to-toe early Saturday morning. Both teams saw their fair share of success from both the batter's box and the pitching mound. In the end Teutopolis earned the victory, 4-2, improving their overall record to 19-5. The Cardinals still have a strong performance this season, sitting at 16-9.

In softball, St. Teresa played host to cross-town competitor MacArthur in Decatur. Both teams set the tone in the first inning with aggressive baserunning, capitalizing on defensive miscues. The Generals led 3-2 at the end of the first, but an offensive flurry, led to a 24-12 Bulldog win.
