SEASON PREVIEW: Mahomet-Seymour preparing for 2026 campaign with new starting QB

MAHOMET, Ill. (WAND) -- Heading into the 2026 season Mahomet-Seymour will have a new starting quarterback. 

Junior Connor Fisher said after learning and watching the last couple of seasons he is ready to be the man leading the offense and he knows he has the support from his teammates and coaches. 

"He just says, I'm going to mess up a lot. I just got a lot faster than going the best I can do," Fisher said. "Been with them for a few years now, so I just really know him as a person. Just helps on the field to communicate." 

"At the end of the day I don't want him to feel any pressure. We got a really strong running game," Jon Adkins, Head Coach, said. "We got skill kids all over the place. And then we got a pretty talented defense that we're not going to ask him to win ballgames. For us, it's more of a manage the game, get the ball to your people and get the job done and continue to be a great leader."

The Bulldogs finally broke the post season drought making it to the playoffs last season. And entering his 8th year as head coach Adkins is hoping to continue that momentum into this years campaign.

"Don't be satisfied. You know, and we need everybody. Our theme this year to strength in every brick," Adkins said. "And and I think that comes from a couple of different places. But but it's going to take everybody. It can't just be one person on either side of the ball. It's going to take all 11, all 22, all 33, if you will."

Adkins said being player lead by the upper classman is special and allows for him to step back sometimes.

"To be honest, the voices come from everyone, even from like younger athletes out there, like some of our sophomores, or even step stepping up to become leaders," Cody Moen, senior running back. "But mainly our senior leaders out here are just telling everyone and reassuring everyone that no matter what, it's just a game. It's just a practice. It's everything's gonna be okay."

"We have a leadership council of many guys that lead this team lead individual drills, center lead, the locker room," Adkins said. "So yeah, I love our kids and we got a great group of them. And I know they're, going to do a great job this year."
