WARRENSBURG, Ill. (WAND) - Warrensburg-Latham boys basketball is off to another hot start this year, as CIC play ramps up.

After Tuesday night's win at home over Tuscola, the Cardinals sit at 18-3, 2-0.

Head Coach Tim Martin said earlier in the week, "We're starting to hit the heart of our schedule, we have a lot of good non-conference games, but we got Tuscola at home, obviously they're off to a great start and then we have Clinton coming up as well. One of the big people in the way is Tuscola."

The focus for the team is on winning a second straight conference championship and making a deeper run in the playoffs.

Drew Czajkowski, a senior forward said, "I think last season we were all very devastated with how the season ended with that hard loss against T-Town and I think we're just hungry this year to try and get back to that position or even further."

Another senior forward, Eastyn Mckenzie, added on about winning the CIC again, saying, "It would mean everything. I don't know the last team that did it in the CIC, so it would mean a lot and it would help us a lot going into the postseason, having confidence."

Coach Martin is in his fourth year as the head man at Warrensburg-Latham. His first freshman class are now seniors, which helps him instill the culture he wants.

"I lean heavily on my seniors to help lead these young guys to help keep that culture that I built with them," Martin said. "They do a great job of that. They hold these kids accountable, they hold each other accountable, and we have a great team culture because of that."

There is less than a month left in the boys basketball regular season.
