DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — St. Teresa High School has announced the promotion of David Peters to Head Coach of the Bulldog varsity baseball program.
A 2008 graduate of St. Teresa, Peters steps into the role with years of coaching experience at both the high school and collegiate levels. After his playing career at Lake Land Community College and Millikin University, Peters joined the Millikin University baseball staff, serving as Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator from 2012 to 2016. During that time, he played a key role in player development and the growth of the program.
Peters has also served as an assistant coach at St. Teresa under longtime head coach Jim Stewart, contributing to the continued success of the Bulldog baseball program. Beyond the varsity level, he helped establish and develop the Jr. Dawgs Baseball Program and has coached Decatur Catholic Junior High baseball.
School officials describe Peters as a passionate and proven leader who brings strong knowledge of the game and a deep commitment to St. Teresa’s values. His leadership will focus on accountability, player development, and competitive excellence.
According to St. T Assistant Principal and Athletic Director Tom Noonan, the school is excited to see Peters take the helm of the Bulldog baseball program and looks forward to the energy and vision he will bring to the team.
"I want to begin by thanking Principal Matt Snyder and Athletic Director Tom Noonan for their trust and support. I’m also incredibly grateful to Coach Jim Stewart for giving me the opportunity four years ago to join his staff as an assistant. St. Teresa has always been a big part of my life. My daughters have grown up watching games on St. Teresa’s fields surrounded by some of the best student-athletes — and even better people — this area has ever seen. It is truly an honor to take over this historic program. I have deep respect for the coaches who came before me and the legacy they built. I look forward to continuing to uphold that tradition," Peters told WAND News.Â
