DECATUR, IL. (WAND) - Recent unhealthy air quality from Canadian wildfires will shift southward later tonight and Tuesday. The culprit? Thunderstorms.

We all know we don't need the rain, but pockets of heavy rain (over an inch in spots) will return in a one-two punch tonight. Now, in typical thunderstorm fashion, some areas get a lot and some get very little. Nonetheless, there is a risk of damaging wind and hail in these storms, namely northern and western sections of central Illinois. The reasoning for this is due to the first line of storms weakening from northwest to southeast as they outpace the cold front to our north. Said cold front will likely trigger another round of storms overnight into early Tuesday morning.

Stay safe and stay weather-aware.
