DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - It finally feels like fall in Central Illinois, but it still does not quite look like it outside. The fall foliage is slowly coming along, with most of the region still about one to two weeks away from peak.Â
After below average rainfall for the end of summer and a worsening drought through the start of fall, we may be heading toward a less colorful peak for this season. During a fall drought, leaves can fall off faster than they change color, and with only a patchy changeover so far, that may be what is in store for us in Central Illinois.Â
Otherwise, we enjoyed a sunny, mild, and windy start to the work week. Gusty winds peaked at nearly 40 mph for a few hometowns, and sustained winds will remain breezy through the rest of this evening.Â
Overnight lows tonight will dip into the mid 40s as clouds stream in ahead of a weak cold front. This front arrives with little moisture, meaning a few clouds and cooler air rather than rain for tomorrow.Â
