SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - Three people were arrested following a bank robbery in Springfield over the weekend.Â
Springfield police said officers responded to a robbery just before noon Oct. 18 at Clock Tower Community Bank along Sangamon Avenue.Â
SPD stated that a man was armed with a screwdriver demanding money before escaping with several thousand dollars.Â
Police interviewed a witness who provided details about a suspect vehicle. Officers located and pursued the vehicle, which eventually stopped at the intersection of Pasfield St. and Monroe St. Two occupants then exited the vehicle.
SPD later identified the two suspects as 35-year-old Jacob Ortiz-Wilson of Danville, and 32-year-old Shaea Keys of Danville.
The third suspect, identified by SPD as 33-year-old Winston Douglas of La Salle, continued to drive away from police.
Douglas was eventually stopped and arrested near Pasfield St. and Jefferson St. Springfield police also found two firearms in the vehicle during a search.Â
The charges for the three suspects are as follows:
- Keys: Financial institution robbery, theft of property, aggravated fleeing/eluding and leaving the scene of an accident
- Ortiz-Wilson:Â Financial institution robbery, theft of property, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a stolen firearm
- Winston: Financial institution robbery, theft of property, resisting arrest, unlawful use of a weapon,Â
The situation was potentially in connection to a previous bank robbery earlier this month.Â
During that incident, SPD responded to calls that US Bank on E North Grand had been robbed around 4:30 p.m. Oct. 9.Â
According to Springfield police, the suspect was a man wearing a face covering, and escaped with several thousand dollars. He was not found after officers had searched the area.Â
