DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) -  The shortest day of the year is coming this weekend.  Sure, the sun has been setting a tad later over the past week, but its also rising later.   The Winter Solstice is official at 9:03am Sunday.

To get the solstice, we'll have some wind issues...again!   This time around, the wind won't be as strong, but can gust 25-35 mph Saturday.   More tranquil conditions return Saturday night and Sunday.   It's also a free vitamin D weekend with plenty of sunshine.

The source region for next air mass is off to the south and west where plenty of warm air resides.   So, despite a bit chillier weather on Sunday for the solstice, the warmest Christmas on record will likely be had next week!

Happy holidays!
