ARCOLA, Ill. (WAND) - The downtown district in Arcola is undergoing major infrastructure upgrades thanks to a $1.3-million grant through Illinois' "Rebuild Main Street" program.

Continued construction will add re-surfaced sidewalks, upgraded drainage, and improved access for people with disabilities. There are also plans to add an outdoor event space next to the Broom Corn Palace.

The grant enabled the city to replace its water main system last year.

Fuller Wente Construction based in Mattoon is fronting the efforts for many of the projects.
