SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - Black Lives Matter Springfield will host a series of events to celebrate Black History Month.Â
The festivities will kick off with the fifth annual Black children's book week event from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, at 1100 S. Grand Avenue E. There will be "celebrity readers," vendor tables and best of all, free books for all attendees.Â
A Black Heritage Month Career and Resource Fair will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, at the CMS Regional Complex at 4800 West Wabash Avenue. Participating Illinois state agencies will include the Illinois Department of Agriculture, Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, Illinois Department of Transportation, Illinois State Police and more. No registration is required.Â
History and Hot Chocolate: Black History Month Black Leaders History Hike will take place from 1-2:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at Oak Ridge Cemetery. Participants can learn about the history and stories of Springfield's Black community and enjoy hot chocolate in the Tomb Caretakers' residence.Â
