FORSYTH, Ill. (WAND) — The Hickory Point Golf Course is once again transforming into a winter wonderland as the Decatur Park District gears up for its annual Trees on the Tees celebration.

Clay Gerhard, Executive Director of the Decatur Park District, said staff members have been working for weeks to prepare for the holiday tradition.

“Our guys are pumped — out here hanging Christmas lights in the trees and starting to put some of the yard decorations out,” Gerhard said. “Everybody’s getting in the holiday spirit, and we’re excited to share Christmas cheer with everyone.”

This year’s setup began around October 1, and crews have taken advantage of several warm, sunny weeks to hang more lights.

“We’ve probably added another 30% lights from what we’ve had in previous years,” Gerhard said.

The event features decorated golf holes, light displays, and new additions for guests looking to enjoy the sights in comfort — including the newly added “Heat Wave” golf carts, which are hard-sided and heated.

“Now we’re up to about 130 total golf carts, plus the new Heat Wave cars,” Gerhard said. “Some people love to bundle up and enjoy the cold, but for those who prefer a little warmth, this gives them that option.”

Trees on the Tees has quickly become a beloved holiday tradition for central Illinois families.

“When we first envisioned it, we thought it might be a one-year event,” Gerhard said. “After the first night, we realized we were in trouble — that we were going to be doing this every year. The community loves it, and we love seeing their joy.”

Tickets for Trees on the Tees are on sale now through the Decatur Park District. The event will feature lighted displays, themed golf holes, heated carts, and a visit from Santa Claus, spreading holiday cheer for families across the area.
