DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Martin Luther King Jr. Day events are already kicking off in Central Illinois.
Eisenhower High School students showed their art off at an event honoring King's birthday on Thursday.
The art exhibit took place at Gallery 37 in Decatur, and students submitted art to be judged for a chance to win a check.
Gallery 37 COO Jalen Clinton said the event served as an important way to see the city's different talents.
"I feel like in Decatur, we need to be able to see the different things as far as within art and within our community. And we have a lot of different people from all different races and etc. that have beautiful talents in Decatur," Clinton said.
