DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Decatur native and award-winning author Avery Irons will return to the Soy City to celebrate her debut novel.Â
An author visit and book signing will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 18, in the Madden Auditorium at the Decatur Public Library.Â
Doors will open at 5:30 p.m.
According to DPL, Irons' book "Belonging to the Air" follows a young Black girl coming of age in a fictional freedman's town in Illinois.
Irons won the 2025 Screen Door Press Prize, and her work has appeared in the African American Review and Sinister Wisdom.Â
This event will be free and open to the public.Â
