DANVILLE, Ill. (WAND) - The Fischer Theatre is hosting FischerFest: The Cinematic Legacy of Gene Hackman, a two-day film festival on August 16 and 17, 2025.

The event celebrates the career of Oscar-winning actor and Danville native Gene Hackman, featuring five of his iconic films.

The festival will be held at the restored Fischer Theatre, near Hackman’s childhood home.

The lineup includes:

Saturday, August 16

  • Bonnie and Clyde
  • The French Connection
  • Unforgiven

Sunday, August 17

  • Crimson Tide
  • Dessert and Discussion, a community film discussion
  • The Royal Tenenbaums

The festival will feature screenings and a special “Dessert and Discussion” event on Sunday, focusing on Gene Hackman's impact on film and his ties to the Danville community, led by film critic Chuck Koplinski.

Before each screening, Koplinski and Pam Powell will share behind-the-scenes insights, followed by a 10-minute Q&A.

Local food truck Norah’s Smokehouse will provide refreshments. Artist Katie Weston will create a live portrait of Hackman. Custom t-shirts, an informational piece from the Danville Public Library, Hackman photos, and original artwork will be displayed.

The weekend will also include themed cocktails and trivia.
