CHATHAM, Ill. (WAND) - The community is rallying together to support the families of four children who were killed after a vehicle drove through the YNOT After School Summer Camp in Chatham Monday.
Four children are dead and six others are hurt, according to Illinois State Police.Â
On Tuesday morning, the names of the victims were released by the coroner:
Ainsley Johnson, age 8, of Chatham
Rylee Britton, age 18, of Springfield
Kathryn Corley, age 7, of Chatham
Alma Buhnerkempe, age 7, of Chatham
A list of events and ways to help has been created, which includes vigils, meal trains, information on blood donations, and more.
The Glenwood Student Council has started a Go Fund Me to support the victims' families. As of Tuesday afternoon, over $100,000 had been raised.
A local psychologist has shared tips on how parents can help children cope after a traumatic event.
Grief counseling and trauma-informed support will be available at a series of evening sessions at Chatham Presbyterian Church, 1835 E Walnut St., from 5 to 7 p.m. on April 29, April 30 and May 1. Attendees may enter through the Chatham Community Food Pantry or Church Fellowship Hall entrances.
