MACON COUNTY, Ill. (WAND) - This is your last week to drop off unwanted Christmas lights for recycling in Macon County.
Recycling allows the metals and plastics in the unwanted strands to be reused in new products.Â
The last day to drop off any unwanted light strands is January 31.
Residents may place strings of lights in the specially marked, outdoor, white collection box at the Macon County Environmental Management Recycling Center at 151 W. Wood Street, Decatur.
The recycle center has moved. An open house will be held in the spring.
Bulbs do not need to be removed from strands of lights to be recycled but all packaging, including bags or boxes used to transport the lights, and any other attachments such as hangers, garland or decorations should be removed before dropping off.
