DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Children’s Museum of Illinois is announcing the grand opening of its new Little Free Library, a free community book-sharing resource.
The unveiling ceremony will take place on April 8 at 11 a.m., inviting visitors to take a book or leave a book.
The project is a partnership between Children’s Museum of Illinois, Kiwanis Early Birds, and the Golden K Kiwanis Club.
The Little Free Library, located by the Museum’s sidewalk will offer a rotating selection of children’s books.
“Data shows that access to books is key to sparking creativity and learning,” said Rikki Parker, Executive Director of the Children’s Museum of Illinois. “With the Little Free Library, we hope to create a space where children can discover new stories, share their favorites, and build a love for reading.”
Doug Warren said, “Kiwanis is dedicated to serving children in our community and beyond, and we’re thrilled to partner with the Museum on this initiative. By making books more accessible, we’re fostering a love of reading that can last a lifetime.”
The community is encouraged to participate by donating gently used children’s books to keep the library stocked.
The celebration on April 8 will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a special story time session.
