Parkland College, Cache Energy launching registered apprenticeship for industrial manufacturing technicians

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - Parkland College and Cache Energy are launching a U.S. Department of Labor Registered Apprenticeship program for Industrial Manufacturing Technicians.

The one-year apprenticeship combines paid on-the-job learning at Cache Energy with technical training at Parkland. This includes coursework in blueprint reading, electronic systems repair, welding, industrial control devices, and industrial safety.

Apprentices will learn skills in equipment operation and maintenance, quality systems, technical documentation, and continuous improvement while earning progressively higher wages as they demonstrate their skills.

Cache Energy was founded in Champaign. The company's technology provides long-duration energy storage, delivers high-temperature industrial heat up to 1,000°F, and retains stored energy for months at room temperature without energy loss.

This apprenticeship was developed through a partnership among Cache Energy, Parkland College, and the Business Services team at the Champaign County Regional Planning Commission (RPC), demonstrating how regional collaboration can help employers develop the skilled workforce needed to bring emerging technologies to market.
