DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - The City of Decatur is planning a prescribed burn April 14 to April 18 at natural area restoration near Lake Shore Dr. and Martin Luther King Jr. Dr.Â
Residents may see lots of smoke for a short time period this week. The prescribed burn will take place at the City's natural area restoration along Lake Shore Drive in basin 1. This is located between Lake Shore Drive and the water's edge, south of the Lake Shore Drive and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive intersection.
The southernmost (right) lane of eastbound Lake Shore Drive will be closed for about 20-30 minutes while the burn occurs.
The prescribed burn will be conducted by trained and experienced professionals. It is designed to decrease invasive species and encourage the growth of native plants.
