URBANA, Ill. (WAND) — The Urbana Health and Wellness Center celebrated their anniversary Saturday after opening one year ago on January 4, 2025.

Executive Director Rachel Lenz said although they have been open for a year, it can still be a hidden gem to some.

"There's still people who don't know this is here, which is surprising," said Lenz. "It's had such a boom of success this first year, we want to make sure that everybody knows it's something for them, that they belong here."

The center offers memberships for individuals and families. It features an indoor track, fitness studios, basketball courts and a sensory room.

The facility started as the district's idea in 2020 at the height of the pandemic. The center is located off of East Washington Street in Urbana.

The Park District broke ground on the Health and Wellness Center in May of 2023. Private donations, Champaign County and City of Urbana ARPA grants, $3.2 million in Park District property tax reserve funds, and the Urbana Parks Foundation helped fund the $13.8 million project.
