DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — Three women business owners celebrated Saturday as they opened their businesses to the Decatur community.

Laurie Burnett, owner of the Willow Nest, said the small business world is not about competition, but community.

"I'm so thrilled to have him here, and luckily they were willing to kind of coordinate their grand opening with our open house. It was a win-win for all of us," Burnett said.

Lollipop Lane is a baby boutique, new small business owner Julie Elwick, was let go from her corporate job. During that time, she was able to take care of her grandson and wanted to find a place for cute clothes.

She felt Decatur needed a place for stylish clothes for newborns to eight-month-olds.

"'I'm hoping that if I get more requests for that, maybe we'll be expanding inside the store. Not moving locations, but expanding sizes within the store and maybe some bigger toys as well," said Elwick.

Last, but certainly not least, Deane Benz is the owner of Say Wow. The store specializes in charcuterie boards. Benz and her niece, Maddie Tener, work together to put love in all their food.

"You hear about some of these stories and people opening their businesses, like having their dreams come true when it comes to that stuff. But seeing it in person really makes me know that I can do that. And it's just an amazing experience to have," said Tener.

Each of these women hope to spark local support from shoppers in Decatur, and encourage other small business owners to support one another as well.
