CHESTNUT, Ill. (WAND) - Firefighters rushed to contain an anhydrous ammonia leak that sent one person to the hospital Tuesday night in Chestnut in rural Logan County.

Just after 8 p.m., Chestnut Fire along with Mt Pulaski Fire were called to a rural intersection for an anhydrous ammonia leak due to a punctured line.

Crews found a low cloud of anhydrous surrounding the farm implement using the anhydrous.

The anhydrous gasses were at a level of approximately knee to waist high from the ground.

Chestnut emergency crews entered the field, used air tanks, dropped hose and approached the scene.

With the leak was ongoing, water was used to clear a path to the tank for firefighters to get close enough to the tanks to stop the leak. Remaining gasses were allowed to dissipate.

The operator of the farm equipment was treated on scene for inhalation and was taken to the hospital for further care but was in stable condition.
