DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) – Two tornadoes touched down in Macon County Sunday, damaging homes and knocking out power.

The Macon County Emergency Management Agency confirmed that a tornado briefly touched down near Blue Mound around 3:05 p.m., crossing Route 48. They said no damage was identified in that area.

The agency said a second tornado touched down around 3:10 p.m. in the Long Creek area.

Several homes along Jeanette Drive, Skyline Drive, and Baltimore Ave. sustained damage. At least two homes had their roofs torn off.

The Macon County EMA said damage was also reported on Walmsley Road and Bentonville Road.

First responders in the area told WAND News it did not appear anyone was hurt. Several people and pets inside a home on Skyline Ave. were able to safely get out of a home when the roof was ripped off.

Macon County EMA and first responders asked people to avoid the area to allow crews to safely work and reach people who might need assistance.

A WAND viewer sent pictures of a home damaged along Sand Creek Road.

The EMA said everyone that was displaced has been sheltered, and officials are working with the American Red Cross. The agency said a joint damage assessment will take place Monday.

The storm continued moving east into Piatt County. The possible tornado was with a line of storms that quickly moved across Illinois. The storm system prompted several tornado warnings in central Illinois.

The storms, along a strong cold front, caused temperatures to plummet more than 20 degrees. High temperatures on Sunday reached the 60s but are expected to fall into the 20s and 30s Sunday evening and overnight into Monday.

A line of severe storms started moving through central Illinois around 2 p.m. Wind gusts in some areas reached 55 miles per hour, according to NWS.

As of 6 p.m., Ameren reported nearly 2,400 people without power in Macon County, mainly along the area where the possible tornado was reported. More than 100 people were without power in Menard County.

The NWS will survey damage later to confirm any tornadoes, including wind speeds, size, and other information.

This is a developing story.
