DECATUR, Ill. (WAND)- The first mural of the 2017 Decatur Mural Project has been started.Â
Ron English, a renowned street artist and muralist, was chosen for the mural outside of Ken's Aquarium and Pet Supply on 730 E. Cerro Gordo Street. English, grew up in Decatur, and chose the week of July 10th to paint the mural because he will be attending his 40th class anniversary that week. He says its great to be back where he grew up.Â
"I think it means everything to me because my dad used to work at the factory right down the street at Staley's from the lift and also I have a memory from every street and avenue in Decatur so you know you are part of town, you can never leave it because it stays with you." he said.Â
The owner of Ken's Aquarium and Pet Supply are happy to see older buildings getting attention through the mural project, including their own.Â
The 2017 Decatur Mural Project is being put on through the Decatur Area Arts Council.Â
There will be a total of three murals painted on walls throughout town, they should be finished by September.Â
