CORNLAND, Ill. (WAND) - Cornland residents were given the all clear after being told to shelter in place Thursday morning for a large anhydrous ammonia leak south of town.

The Logan County Sheriff's Office responded to the leak at around 7:50 a.m. Police said the caller was not on scene but received information indicating a significant leak and that one person at the site was hurt from the exposure.

According to the sheriff's office, an investigation found that a broken hose caused the chemical release from two 1,000-gallon tanks.

Due to the proximity of the incident to the county line, Sangamon County Central Dispatch was notified. It was later confirmed that the source of the leak was located in Sangamon County.

State Route 54 near 1000th Ave. in Cornland was shut down, and the sheriff's office told people to stay inside and close all doors and windows around 8:47 a.m. as a precaution.

About 15 minutes later, police said the hazard had been resolved, and the shelter in place had been cancelled. State Rt. 54 was reopened.
