WASHINGTON (WAND) – A measure to name a post officer after a fallen Illinois Sailor has passed the U.S. Senate.
Records show lawmakers unanimously approved a plan to rename the Harristown post office in memory of Logan Palmer, a Navy petty officer who lost his life on the U.S.S. John S. McCain when it collided with a tanker in August 2017. It would be called the Logan S. Palmer Post Office.
After passing the Senate, the bill only needs President Donald Trump’s signature. It went through the House unanimously in September.
Congressman Rodney Davis introduced H.R. 5935 earlier in 2018. He told WAND-TV he received support from every Republican and Democrat in the Illinois House.

“Designating this post office will not only honor Logan’s service, but also serve as a grave reminder of risks that our service members take on each day and the responsibilities we have to them as a country,” Davis said.
Palmer was an interior communications electrician in the Navy after graduating from Sangamon Valley High School and Richland Community College.
