DECATUR - The Kmart store on Decatur's northeast side will close its doors to the public in early August.
According to a release from Sears Holdings Director of Corporate Communications Howard Riefs, Decatur's Kmart store will begin its liquidation sale on May 19. Riefs also says the closure is part of a series of actions being taken to reduce on-going expenses.
Riefs adds that the number of employees impacted by the closure is not available, but most of those who are impacted are part-time or hourly employees. Employees who are eligible will receive severance pay and will have the opportunity to apply for open positions at other local Sears or Kmart stores.
We will provide more information as it becomes available.
