URBANA, Ill. (WAND) - A Hoopeston man has been sentenced for hitting a disabled elderly man he was working for as a caretaker.
44-year-old Reese Billot was sentenced to two years of probation and three months in jail after pleading guilty to aggravated battery.
He admitted he hit the man in the face on May 31 while working at a Rantoul assisted-living facility for seniors with intellectual disabilities.
The victim is deaf and has Down Syndrome, the News Gazette reports.
Billot was under the influence of his own prescription medication and that of another person's when he showed up for work.
He slept through most of his shift.
When he woke up in the morning, he was supposed to be feeding three people assigned to him.
Prosecutors said he got upset, slapped the victim in the face, and knocked away a bowl of cereal that another resident had prepared for him.
An older woman he was supposed to be caring for was found covered in her own urine. All three people assigned to him did not get their medication.
The victim who was slapped had a red and swollen face.
