PEORIA, Ill. (WAND) – Mining and earth moving equipment manufacturer Caterpillar has been finding talented young employees by digging into their pool of interns.

The company invited 625 summer interns to an in-the-dirt orientation. At a time when many companies are cutting back, Caterpillar says it is investing in the next generation of its workforce. Using its pool of interns as possible future employees to produce and design its famous yellow products.

“I’m just so excited to get hands on skills with everything I’ve been practicing in my school work,” stated Nora Duffy one of 50 University of Illinois students taking part. “I can finally apply that in real life scenarios to build on those skills even better.” 

Caterpillar says in 2023 it hired more than half of its interns to full-time employment.
