CLINTON, Ill. (WAND) — The third annual Surprise Smiles for Seniors week is well underway at Grimsley's Flower Store. People can sponsor seniors at Liberty Village of Clinton who don't usually get visitors or flowers to receive a bouquet of flowers.

In celebration of National Senior Citizen Day, Alex Lovell — the owner of Grimsley's — waives the delivery fee and helps to hand-deliver the flowers to the unsuspecting seniors. "That's why we named it Surprise Smiles for Seniors, because it's something that they aren't expecting to get." said Lovell. "Just [to see] the look on their face and how much joy it brings to them to receive a delivery."

Jill Reiger, the Director of Marketing at Liberty Village of Clinton, said that Grimsley's did the bulk of the planning and let the staff there know of their surprise plan. She said seeing the community give back to the senior citizens in the community was not only heartwarming, but also truly significant. "It's important — not only to recognize senior citizens at facilities — but also within your community, and what they have contributed," said Reiger.

Kellie Borland is a designer at Grimsley's and this was her first year being able to participate in the delivery portion of the project. She helped design the over 60 bouquets they distributed on Monday. "We're a small town, small community, close knit. I've grew up here, [been] raised here. So, it's neat just to see everybody pull together for individuals that need love."

Grimsley's is still accepting sponsors; single bouquets are $28, and sponsors can buy up to 3 bouquets at a time for $84. Their last delivery date to Liberty Village is Friday.
