URBANA, Ill. (WAND) - The Community Thanksgiving Dinner is back and better for its 50th annual meal at Urbana High School.

After a three year hiatus, residents were excited to return to the highly anticipated dinner.

"It is exciting and it warms my heart to see the people come out and enjoy Thanksgiving with others. It's nice to see the same people over and over each year." said Student Council Advisor, Yvonne Alvarez.

The dinner is fully operated by the student council. Vice President Citali Cortes-Alvares believes it's a good thing for residents to look forward to each year.

"The community can be a wonderful and positive thing. Although bad things are happening there's always something to look forward to and good people to surround yourself with." said Alvarez.

Alvarez also believes the event shows how important it is to give back for students, and her own family.

"It's been important to me because the community needs it but it's also to show the students here and my own family that it is good to give back." said Alvarez.

If you missed this year, student council members urge you to come out for next years dinner.
