DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — One person was killed in a shooting that shut down roads in Decatur Wednesday morning.
The Macon County Coroner has identified that person as Kemari A. Carr, 22, of Decatur. Carr was pronounced dead at Decatur Memorial Hospital Emergency Room at 6:53 a.m. shortly after arriving by ambulance.
Carr suffered gunshot trauma in a shooting from another vehicle near the intersection of Pershing Rd. and Martin Luther King Dr., the coroner reported.
The Decatur Police Department responded to the scene around 6:24 a.m. At the scene, they located Carr in a black Pontiac sedan. He was the only occupant.
An autopsy was completed at the McLean County Coroner's Morgue in Bloomington. The preliminary information shows that Carr was killed by a single gunshot wound to the chest. He also had multiple gunshot wounds to his extremities. An inquest is pending.
Pershing Road was temporarily closed between N. Brett Ave. and Water St., and MLK was temporarily closed between Mound Road and Pythian around two hours Wednesday morning. All roads have since reopened.

Based on the information police obtained from witnesses and physical evidence on scene, the Pontiac was stopped facing southbound on Martin Luther King Jr Drive just north of Pershing Road. After shots were fired, the Pontiac traveled southeast through the intersection crashing into two unoccupied vehicles on the lot of Best One of Central Illinois.
The Decatur Police Department is working on this investigation. The department does not believe this to be a random act of violence but rather a targeted shooting. Anyone who witnessed this incident or has video surveillance footage of the shooting is encouraged to contact the Decatur Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division 217-424-273 or Crimestoppers 217-423-8477.
