DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) -- A 26-year-old woman is dead following a reported accidental shooting Saturday evening in Decatur.
According to the Decatur Police Department, officers were dispatched around 5:27 p.m. on February 14 to the 1700 block of North Summit Avenue for a report of a gunshot victim inside the home.
Police said 25-year-old Christian D. Luthy called 911 and reported that he had accidentally shot a woman inside the home.
When officers arrived, they found a 26-year-old female suffering from a single gunshot wound. She was taken to Decatur Memorial Hospital, where she later died.
Luthy remained at the scene and was taken to the police department headquarters for questioning. Detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigations Division processed the scene and conducted interviews as part of the investigation.
Following the investigation, Luthy was arrested on a charge of Involuntary Manslaughter. He was booked in the Macon County Jail.
