LEXINGTON, Ill. (WAND) — Body worn camera footage has been released from an investigation into the police shooting of a man outside a gas station during an arrest attempt.

The shooting happened on Feb. 6, 2025. According to Illinois State Police, the agency was alerted to a vehicle that was believed to have been involved in an armed robbery in Texas. The car was traveling on Interstate 74 in Champaign County around 9:30 a.m.

The car stopped at a gas station in McLean County about an hour later, and one man got out and entered the gas station. Officers arrived at this time and tried to take the driver, 18-year-old Ryan Aeron Stanley Hurst from Arkansas, into custody.

Hurst is currently at the McLean County jail on three counts of attempted first-degree murder, four counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm, and one count of aggravated assault.

ISP is still conducting an investigation into the shooting, and will present evidence to the McLean County State’s Attorney's Office.
