Menard Co. deputies asks public help after storage break-in, cameras cut down

MENARD COUNTY, Ill. (WAND) — The Menard County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help as deputies investigate a burglary and theft, along with incidents of criminal damage, reported near Greenview.

According to the sheriff’s office, the burglary occurred Sunday morning, January 4, between approximately 6:30 a.m. and 6:50 a.m., at a location north of Greenview along Illinois Route 29.

Deputies say unknown suspects forcibly removed padlocks from storage containers and stole property from the site.

In addition to the theft, deputies are also investigating criminal damage involving law enforcement surveillance equipment.

The sheriff’s office says a Flock Safety camera operated by the Menard County Sheriff’s Office was cut down at the intersection of Illinois Route 29 and Montgomery Avenue/North Middletown Avenue. That damage is believed to have occurred late in the evening on Friday, January 2.

A similar incident was reported in neighboring Mason County. Officials say a Flock Safety camera operated by the Mason County Sheriff’s Office, located near Illinois Route 29 and County Road 800 North, was also cut down in the same manner.

The Menard County Sheriff’s Office has obtained images of the suspects and is urging anyone who recognizes the individuals or who may have been traveling in the area during the listed timeframes to come forward.
