CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) — An Urbana teenager is in custody for his role in a June 2025 shooting that killed two teenagers from Champaign, according to the Champaign Police Department.

Officers were dispatched at 12:01 a.m. on June 29, 2025, to Holly Hill Drive following a report of a shooting with injuries.

Officers find two victims

Police said when they searched the area they located two teens from Champaign unconscious in the front yard of a residence in the 1500 block of Holly Hill Drive with life-threatening gunshot wounds.

Officers rendered medical aid with help from the Champaign Fire Department until both could be transported to an area hospital.

One victim, a sixteen-year-old male, died from his injuries. The second victim, also a sixteen-year-old male, remained hospitalized in critical condition until he died on July 7, 2025.

Arrest and charges

On Tuesday, the Champaign Police Department assisted the United States Marshals Service Great Lakes Regional Task Force as they arrested a 16-year-old in Urbana based on an arrest warrant from a prior robbery conviction.

The teen was charged Wednesday with first-degree murder. Due to his age, his name and other information about the case isn't being released, according to police. 

Investigation ongoing
