MATTOON, Ill. (WAND) — With Bagelfest already multiple days underway, the City of Mattoon lifted the 'Do Not Drink' order that has been over the city on and off for over a week.
Vendors took multiple steps to make sure they kept themselves and their customers safe.
Chris Walden, owner of Big Al's Shakeups, said once the 'Do Not Drink' order was put in place the previous week, they immediately started outsourcing their ice and water from Charleston.Â
"It's been something we haven't dealt with since we started the business. And it's one of those things we had to pivot real quick," Walden explained.
Big Al's Shakeups has taken on additional costs to be able to outsource their products, but they were not the only ones.Â
Amanda Perdomo owns La Luna Mexican Restaurant, which has a food truck and a brick and mortar location. Perdomo said that they have taken on the cost of purchasing disposable plates, cups and utensils as well as purchasing ice and soft drinks.
But she said the community has shown up to support.
"The community is great at supporting all of the small business owners ... we've had customers bring in soda to us, water to us, even give it us money to go and pick stuff up that we need,"Â Perdomo said.
Bagelfest ends Saturday with a jam-packed schedule with live music, a powerlifting contest, a 5K race and the World's Biggest Bagel Breakfast.
