DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — The Brush College Road Construction project, which started in 2023, is reaching the end of its third phase out of five phases.
The project targets a 1.21-mile section of Brush College Road to alleviate traffic congestion in the industrial core of Decatur. A key feature of this project will be the construction of an overpass at the railroad crossing, which will help improve the flow of traffic in the area.
Matthew Newell, the Decatur Public Works Director, says the project is well underway and going according to schedule.
"Right now there around 40% complete. They are working on the on the two sides of the of the bridge embankment. If you drive out there you can see, there's a lot of work going on there," said Newell.
During the ongoing construction, commuters may encounter bumpy roads along the route.
Newell stated, "The old road is starting to fall apart and you, you don't spend a whole lot of time fixing an old pavement that's going to be tore out through the process. So yeah, it is. It is bumpy. It'll all get ironed out. It'll all be brand new. When, when it's all completed."
This project is slated to be completed July 2026. For status on the project, residents can stay up-to-date on the city website project page.Â
