DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — Five years ago, amidst the challenges of the pandemic, Shina Miner channeled her passion for candles into creating Decor'd by Shina Candle Shop in Decatur.
Miner shared with WAND News, "This started during the pandemic in 2020... loving candles and being stuck in the house."
Over the past five years, Decor'd by Shina Candle Shop has flourished. The shop offers a range of handmade products, including candles, wax melts, and rolling car sprays. Miner said she takes pride in her creations.
"They are all handmade by me. No machine."
Beyond retail, Miner has introduced candle-making classes, providing a unique opportunity for people in the community.
"This is something for the community, something different. Put your phone down and get creative."
As a Black entrepreneur, Miner told WAND News she wants her success to serve as an inspiration to others. She credited Tamika Coleman, from The Snowball Effect, for helping inspire her to start a business.
"When I started, I wasn't sure how this was going to go but keep going—you see where I am now."

Decor'd by Shina Candle Shop is located at 3767 E US Route 36, Decatur, IL. Store hours are Wednesday through Friday from 5:30 PM to 7 PM, and Saturday from 10 AM to 6 PM. For more information, visit their website. The store also offers items from other small businesses in the area.
