DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - The Decatur Genealogical Society is expected to move into its new location in early Spring.

The Decatur Genealogical Society has placed its signage at the new building off of East Pershing Road.

The Society broke ground on the new building on East Pershing Road in Oct. 2023. It is currently on West South Side Drive in Decatur.

The new building will double the organization's size. It will also have everything on one level and provide more access for people wanting to do research.

"It's like night and day from where we currently are," said Gail Leonard, a volunteer.

The group plans to expand digital research and provide more space for people to come in.

The Decatur Genealogical Society was established in 1964 and is the largest non-tax-supported genealogical library in Illinois. The society also serves as a repository for original Macon County Records such as original probate records from 1830 to 1995, inheritance tax records, microfilm of vital records, and more.

The group is thankful for the work of Building Systems of Illinois and Jodi Brinkoetter.

The project was made possible by two beneficiaries.
