Decatur man sentenced to 10 years for fatal DUI crash

DECATUR - Macon County State's Attorney Jay Scott says a Decatur man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison in connection with a crash that resulted in the death of one person.

Scott says James Comp, 26, pled guilty to one count of aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol in connection with a July 2014 crash.  Decatur police say Comp was driving a vehicle on East Wood Street when it spun out of control and struck a tree, resulting in two passengers being ejected.

Authorities say one of the passengers, identified as Sara Barnett, died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.  Decatur police say Comp had a blood alcohol level of .139, and also had marijuana and cocaine in his system.  When interviewed by officers, Decatur police say Comp denied being the driver of the vehicle.

Comp also entered another guilty plea for an aggravated DUI charge stemming from a February 2014 traffic stop.  Comp received a one-year sentence, to be served consecutive to the 10-year sentence.
