DECATUR -- It's an international dynasty, and it's headquartered right here in the Soy City.
Husband and wife Brent and Autumn Swansen are among the top bodybuilders in the United States, and even the world. This past year Autumn, 32, won the prestigious "The Arnold" competition in Ohio and posted a second consecutive Top 10 finish in the Olympia Finals (8th in 2016, 5th in 2015). The Kentucky native is among the most recognized athletes in the sport and has competed professionally in three events -- most recently "women's physique", which is all about muscular definition while maintaining a feminine figure.
Brent Swansen, 30, has taken his career to new heights this year, with a fifth place finish at the Las Vegas nationals and a fourth place at the Miami nationals. He has staked a claim as one of the very best amateurs in the nation and the world.
The Swansens have made names for themselves in the bodybuilding world while still maintaining a workmanlike, humble attitude toward their success. For example, Autumn works her waist down to about 23 inches for competition, while her max bench rep is 225 pounds. Brent, whose biceps are as big as most people's waist, cuts himself down from 275 pounds to 245 for competitions. Yet you won't hear a bragging word from either of their mouths.Â
Depending on the seasons, the couple spends anywhere from 14-23 or more hours per week at the gym, not to mention countless hours of strict meal prep, travel and their day jobs. Brent serves as a teacher at Okaw Valley High School and trains others, while Autumn is a physical therapist..
