Emergency dental care available at hospital

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) – People in need can access needed dental care by visiting a two-day clinic in Springfield.

The Bank of Springfield Center is expected to host the Mission of Mercy dental clinic on July 20 and July 21, WEEK reports. The station says the Illinois State Dental Society Foundation sponsors the event, which features at least 1,000 dentists, dental hygienists, assistants and students providing a range of services.

The event is first come first serve and starts at 6 a.m. on both days. The center can be found at 1 Convention Center Plaza in Springfield.

Veterans will be able to have priority service on July 19. Organizers want veterans coming for service from outside of Sangamon County to bring discharge papers or a DD-214 as proof of service. Veteran pre-screenings run from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on that date with information on when to come for the procedure provided after the screening.

People do not need to make appointments to come to the clinic.

WEEK says Mission of Mercy has helped over 2,000 people in the past and covered $1 million in free care.
