DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — The 2018 Federal Farm Bill expired on September 30, 2024. No action will be taken to replace or extend it until after the November election possibly even by the new Congress in January.
“We do agree on some important points,” Rep. Nikki Budzinski (D, IL-13) told WAND News. “We don’t agree on some other really important points and so we need to come to the table and compromise and get a bipartisan farm bill across the finish line.”
Budzinski serves on the House Agriculture Committee. She said she has been focused on getting a farm bill passed her entire first term in office.

Budzinski objected to GOP efforts to favor southern farm products like peanuts, rice, and cotton in the crop insurance portion of the bill. She said she is working to have a more equitable bill so enough crop insurance is provided for all commodities including corn and soybeans which are grown in her district.
