FORSYTH, Ill. (WAND) — Village of Forsyth officials confirmed that they will be expecting a cannabis dispensary at Hickory Point Plaza in June. The dispensary, Bud and Rita's, will be in the old Hickory Point Bank building.

Village of Forsyth Administrator Jill Applebee said that once final corrections are made to plans, Bud and Rita's will get their building permits. "Probably here shortly within the next couple of weeks. And their goal is to open by and this summer, so June of this year."
Applebee explained that the name Bud and Rita's commemorate the owner's grandparents. "Just getting to know their family -- who's very strong in agriculture -- so they appreciate what our community has to offer."
The building will be getting a retro 1950s redesign, and the drive thru will be removed. "They have hired a local construction...so we're happy about that. They're keeping their dollars here locally, as they had promised us." said Applebee. Applebee said that Bud and Rita's have been working with Horve Builders in Forsyth to create their plans, which can be viewed on their Facebook.
Applebee explained that it has been months of work and collaboration with the community to create a plan that benefits the Village. "We want we want residents and community members to know that we're very guarded on this topic, and we're going to make sure that we have our eyes open."
In addition to easier access to products, Applebee said the new addition comes with more perks. "Next year, an estimated of about $500,000 and money that will come back to the community, and that on top of creating new jobs for our residents, increased traffic for other local businesses."
