McLEAN COUNTY (25News Now) - A dust storm has forced the closure of Interstate 55 at milemarker 144 near McLean and Interstate 74 at milemarker 152 near LeRoy.
Illinois State Police say I-55 is closed in both directions. The dust is blowing from east to west across both lanes.
Traffic heading north is being detoured onto eastbound Route 136 to northbound Route 51 to westbound I-74 to northbound I-55.
Southbound traffic is being detoured onto eastbound I-74, southbound Route 51, westbound Route 136 to southbound I-55.
On I-74, troopers report there is no visibility at times. I-74 has been shut down from between milemarkers 149 to 160.
State Police say that if you’re caught in a dust storm - pull off the road as far as possible, stop and turn off all of your lights and make sure your taillights and brake lights are not illuminated as other drivers may follow and could crash into you.
The National Weather Service in Lincoln has issued a dust advisory until 6 p.m. for blowing dust reported in serveral locations in the area.
Impacted highways include I-55 between milemarker 0 and 31, I-474 between milemarker 10 and 14, I-55 between milemarker 11 and 186, and I-74 between milemarker 94 and 219.
